Elders at New Song Church
At New Song Church, elders play a vital role in the spiritual health and leadership of our community. Rooted in the model of servant leadership found in Scripture (1 Peter 5:1–5; Matthew 20:25–28), our elders are called to shepherd with humility, guide with wisdom, and lead with integrity.
Elders are entrusted with teaching sound doctrine, caring for the congregation, stewarding resources wisely, and overseeing the church with prayerful discernment. They are not self-appointed, but thoughtfully selected and affirmed after a careful process of prayer, observation, and spiritual evaluation.
Their leadership is marked by service, not control—by love, not dominance. They are accountable before God for the way they lead, and they serve in joyful submission to Jesus, our Chief Shepherd.
Clarifying Our Biblical View on Women In Ministry
One of the most common theological questions brought to our pastors and elders concerns the role of women in the church. Therefore, out of a pastoral response to the questions being asked within our church and broader culture, we are stating a shared theology.

What we Believe
New Song Church stands in continuity with the historic Christian faith expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. We believe the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God, and the following beliefs summarize the biblical convictions that shape our faith, our life together, and our mission as a church.
The Trinity
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God; yet there is one God. The three persons are distinct, yet one in being and divine nature, co-equal and co-eternal, worthy of the same worship and glory.
God the Father
We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. He created and sustains all things according to His wisdom, goodness, and power. In love, He created humanity in His image for fellowship with Himself and, following humanity’s rebellion and fall, accomplished His saving purpose through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ, the Son
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, truly God and truly man. He was with the Father and the Holy Spirit from the beginning, and through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation, He came from heaven, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and was born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, died, and was buried. On the third day He bodily rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, where He reigns and intercedes for His people. He will come again personally, bodily, and in glory, and His Kingdom will have no end.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the Lord and Giver of Life. He inspired the Scriptures, convicts the world concerning sin, brings new life to those who believe, indwells and sanctifies believers, distributes spiritual gifts, and empowers the Church for holy living, service, and witness.
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as an experience distinct from and subsequent to conversion, through which believers are empowered for life and ministry. We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to operate in the Church today, including the Spirit-given ability to speak in other tongues. We desire the fullness, fruit, gifts, and power of the Holy Spirit to be evident in the life of every believer and throughout the Church.
The Scriptures
We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. Its authority is ultimate, final, and eternal and cannot be superseded by human tradition, experience, or opinion.
Scripture reveals who God is, makes known His saving work in Jesus Christ, and provides everything necessary to lead us in faith, godliness, and faithful Christian living.
Creation, Humanity & the Fall
We believe God created humanity, male and female, in His image and likeness, good and upright, for fellowship with Himself and for His glory.
Through humanity’s rebellion against God, sin entered the world, bringing brokenness, corruption, and death. All people are therefore sinners in need of God’s grace and redemption, and our only hope of salvation is through Jesus Christ.
The Atonement
We believe Jesus Christ willingly gave Himself for us on the cross as the once-for-all, sufficient sacrifice for sin. Through His shed blood, He bore our sins, reconciled us to God, and defeated the powers of sin and death.
Christ’s atoning work is sufficient for all, and its saving benefits are received by those who repent and believe in Him. Through Christ, God has begun the restoration of the whole person—a restoration that will be fully realized in the resurrection.
Salvation
We believe salvation is the free gift of God, given by grace and received through faith in Jesus Christ, not earned by human effort or good works.
God calls us to repent of sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who believe are forgiven, justified, regenerated by the Holy Spirit, adopted as children of God, and brought into new life in Christ.
This new life produces the fruit of loving obedience, holiness, and service to Jesus. Good works do not earn our salvation; they flow from the new life we have received by grace.
Sanctification & the Christian Life
We believe sanctification begins when we are made new in Christ and continues throughout the believer’s life as the Holy Spirit conforms us to the image of Jesus.
The Christian life is one of continuing faith, repentance, obedience, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit. We are called to abide in Christ, put to death the desires of the flesh, resist the spiritual forces of evil, grow in holiness, love God and our neighbor, and faithfully follow Jesus throughout our lives.
Our confidence rests not in our own strength, but in the grace and faithfulness of God and the continuing work of His Spirit within us.
The Church
We believe Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church and that all who have been made new by the Holy Spirit and belong to Christ are members of His Body.
The mission of the Church is to make disciples of all nations—proclaiming the Gospel, teaching believers to obey Jesus, worshiping and praying together, caring for one another and those in need, and bearing witness to the Kingdom of God.
Christ gives ministry gifts to His Church for the equipping of the saints and the work of ministry. Scripture establishes qualified elders to provide spiritual oversight and qualified deacons to serve the Church. Together, every member of the Body is called and empowered to participate in the life and mission of Jesus.
Baptism & the Lord's Supper
We believe Jesus gave His Church two ordinances: water baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
Water baptism is commanded for those who have repented and believed the Gospel. It is an outward testimony of what God has done in the believer’s life and identifies us with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection. We baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Lord’s Supper is practiced by believers in remembrance of Jesus until He comes again. In receiving the bread and the cup, we remember and proclaim Christ’s sacrificial death, celebrate the New Covenant established through His blood, and give thanks for our communion with Christ and one another.
The Return of Christ & the Life to Come
We believe Jesus Christ will personally and bodily return in glory. We believe in the resurrection of the dead, the consummation of the Kingdom of God, and the final judgment.
Those who belong to Christ will dwell forever in the presence of God, while those who remain apart from Christ will experience eternal judgment and separation from God.
We believe in the millennial reign of Christ and in the final hope proclaimed throughout Scripture: the new heavens and the new earth, where God will dwell with His redeemed people, righteousness will reign, death and sorrow will be no more, and we will enjoy Him forever.
We look forward with hope to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
